Thirteen tears after the launch of Taobao, China has risen to become the world’s second busiest online marketplace, behind only the United States. This is the kind of statistics that 41?love, but it doesn’t really tell us anything about why so many people like to buy so many things online.
Is it because it’s easy? Is it because of the ??42 ??selection? Is it because we want to feel ??43 ??to others without leaving the house?
Taobao?was in fact a ??44 ??to ebay’s entrance into the Chinese market in 2003. Jack Ma(馬云)knew that he knew China better than the Americans did, and that Taobao?could beat ebay at its own game here. He was right, and Jack Ma has helped to ??45 ??the nature of online commerce in China---what it looks like, how it works, most ??46 ?, who its users are.
Taobao’s aesthetic(美學)is distinctive, and has influenced and inspired competitors in China and around the world. The way it works is also different from other ??47 ??online retailers(零售店). But the real genius of Taobao?lies in its ??48 ??of its uers. What it looks like and how it works, after all, were ??49 ??with the users in mind: a young, increasingly “connected” and increasingly wealthy Chinese generation.
When they designed Taobao, Jack Ma and his team realized that many young people in China strongly ?50 ?social interaction with their peers, so they made such interaction---everything from messaging to live chats to recommendations and reviews---a core part of Taobao?shopping experience.

She is the most famous women climber in the world because she often climbs without ropes. She climbs in many countried but most often in the French Alps near Chamonix, where she lives. She started climbing near her home in Paris when she was five. Then, at fourteen, she joined the French Alpine Club to learn more, but immediately she climbed better and more quickly than the older members of the club. She won her first competition in Italy in 1995.
Three years ago she found a nre route up the Dru Mountain near Chamonix. The climb took eleven days and for four days the snow was so heavy that she could not move. Last year other climbers tried to follow the new Destivelle Route, but they failed. They are going to try again this year.
People always ask her about her climbing. She says: “I climb because I’m love with mountains. I like touching the rock and reading the face of rock. I like it a lot. I felt at home on the side of a mountain. I prepare well before I go, so I’m never worried.”
Catherine chooses new mountains from books---like buying from a shopping catalogue(目錄)! “I see a nice mountain and I go to climb it!” Her next mountain is in Pakistan. She is going there next month. “It’s much bigger than the Dru, so it’s going to take longer to climb. An American climber, Jeff Lowe, is coming with me to help.”

When I was young, it wasn’t the parental love that filled my thoughts in the spring. It was baseball.
I loved everything about the game---the crack of a bat, the excitement of chasing a ground ball across short green grass, even watching the games on your old black-and-white TV. Yet looking back now, nothing was quite as important to me as the annual ritual(老規(guī)矩)of playing catch with my dad.
Dad was never much of a baseball fan, but as green leaves began to shoot on bare branches and warmth returned to the air, he would grab his old mitt(棒球手套)and head out to the yard with me just the same. There was something beneficial about playing catch with him, the hum(嗡嗡聲)of the ball as it sailed through the air, and the friendly pop as it hit the leather netting. We may have been 50 feet apart, but the flight of that ball connected us, forming as strong a relationship as any father-son talk ever could have.
I was never the star of my Little League team, yet Dad never cared about that. Every year, he would be out there, waiting to field any false throw I sent his way.
As I grew older, I realized that our game was a reflection of our relationship---that even if a problem didn’t involve a glove and a ball, Dad would always be there to handle anything I threw in his direction. His devotion to our springtime ritual showed his devotion to me---not only to my love of baseball but also to my life.
I’ve often ehard it said that “the devil is in the details.” Now I realize that in my relationship with my father, love was in the details.

Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our interpersonal relationships. One strength of the humsn condition is our tendency to give and receive support from one another under stressful circumstances. Social support consists of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties. Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to deal with major life changes and daily difficulties. People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over a range of illness, from depression(抑郁癥)to heart disease, show that the presebce of social support helps people protect themselves from illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.
Social support cushions?stress in a number of ways. First, friends, relatives and coworkers may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others despite our faults and difficulties. Second, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to explain and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third, we typically find social companionship supportive. Engaging in leisure time activities with others helps us to meet other social needs while at the same time distract(使......分神)us from our worries and troubles. Last, other people may give us important suport---financial aid, material resources, and needed services---that reduces stress by helping us solve and deal with out problems.
