If you’re planning on traveling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
?First of all, always check and double-check departure (行程) time. It is amazing how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes?after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10:50. When I arrived at the airport, the clerk at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have at least a little of the local currency (貨幣) with you when you arrive in a country. This can be necessary if you are flying to a place few tourists normally visit. A few years ago I was sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I flew there?from London via (經(jīng)由) Dallas, with very little time to change planes in between. I arrived there at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi and because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead.
“Listen! I only take real money!”?the driver said angrily. Luckily I was able to borrow a few dollars from a clerk at the hotel, but it was very embarrassing (令人難堪的).
The third and last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.

3. What does the underlined word “there” in Paragraph 3 refer to??________
A. London. B. Manchester. C. Tulsa. D. Dallas.
4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage??________
A. The author tells people to choose warm places as their travel destinations.
B. You should remember to take credit cards when traveling.
C. You should know more about the weather of the place you’ll visit.

Tour Guides
These days almost everyone travels. In fact, travel and tourism is the world’s fastest growing s_____1_____?industry. It employs one in every fifteen people around the world. All those people on the job make “getting away from it all” easier than it’s ever been. And while some people think part of the adventure is finding their way around by t_____2_____, others depend on tour guides. These hardy individuals know how to make traveling as easy as pie.
How do they make it so easy? With careful planning, a wealth of knowledge, a good sense of humor and the a_____3_____?to think on their feet. Tour guides never know what might happen. A group member may get lost, become ill or have an accident. A mix-up with hotel reservations can result in “no room at the inn” for the group. Airlines may unexpectedly change schedules or c_____4_____?flights. A tour guide must deal with these difficulties—and keep their group happy.
Not all guides come across these problems, h_____5_____. For guides who give tours in one location, like a city or a historical site, their biggest worry is keeping the information f_____6_____. Repeating the same information dozens of time a day grows old q_____7_____. In addition, these guides must adjust their talks to suit their audiences. Young people or foreign tourists may be interested in different aspects of a site, for example.
Many of these site guides or local guides work only during the summer or tourist season. They may be college students, retired people or local history buffs who just enjoy meeting people. These guides study on their own to learn about their city or site. And they don’t have to take a test before they get a job! People who want to be full-time tour guides don’t have it so easy. They must pass courses in community colleges or special travel schools.

D. Answer the questions(根據(jù)以下內(nèi)容回答問(wèn)題)
My name is Wang Kun. Ever since middle school, my sister Wang Wei and I have dreamed about taking a great bike trip. Two years ago she bought an expensive mountain bike and then she persuaded me to buy one. Last year, she visited our cousins, Dao Wei and Yu Hang at their college if Kunming. They are Dai and grew up in western Yunnan Province near the Lancang River, the Chinese part of the river that is called the Mekong River in other countries. Wang Wei soon got them interested in cycling too. After graduating from college, we finally got the chance to take a bike trip. I asked my sister, “Where are we going?” It was my sister who first had the idea to cycle along the entire Mekong River from where it begins to where it ends. Now she is planning our schedule for the trip.
I am fond of my sister but she has one serious shortcoming. She can be really stubborn. Although she didn’t know the best way of getting to places, she insisted that she organize the trip properly. Now I know that the proper way is always her way. I kept asking her, “When are we leaving and when are we coming back?” I asked her whether she had looked at a map yet. Of course she hadn’t; my sister doesn’t care about details. So I told her that the source of the Mekong is in Qinghai Province. She gave me a determined look -- the kind that said she would not change her mind. When I told her that our journey would begin at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters, she seemed to be excited about it. When I told her the air would be hard to breathe and it would be very cold, she said it would be an interesting experience. I know my sister well. Once she has made up her mind, nothing can change it. Finally, I had to give in.
Several months before our trip, Wang Wei and I went to the library. We found a large atlas with good maps that showed details of world geography. From the atlas we could see that the Mekong River begins in a glacier on a mountain in Qinghai Province. At first river is small and the water is clear and cold. Then it begins to move quickly. It becomes rapids as it passes through deep valleys, traveling across western Yunnan Province. Sometimes the river becomes a waterfall and enters wide valleys. We were both surprised to learn that half of the river is in China. After it leaves China and high altitude, the Mekong becomes wide, brown and warm. As it enters Southeast Asia, its pace slows. It makes wide bends or meanders through low valleys to the plains where rice grows. At last, the river delta enters the South China Sea.
