Mike enjoyed going fishing and decided that he needed a new boat. A friend named Peter said that he knew of a boat for sale at a place called White Bay. Mike telephoned and asked why it was for sale. The woman who was selling the boat explained that it had been her husband's. His name was Wayne and he used to go fishing a lot at night. One morning, however, another fisherman had found Wayne's boat empty out at sea. Wayne wasn't in the boat and people thought that he had drowned (淹死). The woman said that her husband's body had never been found. Now she hated the boat and wanted to sell it quickly.
It was a good fishing boat but Mike bought it very cheaply. He moved the boat 100 kilometres or so to a harbour near where he lived. One Friday Mike and Peter were out in the boat a long way from the coast. It suddenly became very cloudy and the air was white, so they couldn't see anything around them. Mike told Peter to turn off the engine and wait for the weather to get better. He said that as they were a long way from land, it was much safer to wait. The men waited but the weather didn't improve. In fact, it got worse. At ten o'clock Mike told Peter to start the engine of the boat, but it wouldn't start. Mike tried to use the radio, but it was broken. Then the lights went out. They were in the dark in a broken-down boat a long way out to sea.
At around 12 a. m. they decided to go to sleep. The next thing Mike knew it was morning and he could hear something noisy. Was it another boat? He opened his eyes and looked out. The noise wasn't a boat, it was a car. Their boat was in a harbour, but not Mike's harbour. The boat was back in White Bay where Mike had bought it. Maybe only one person could have brought the boat there safely. That was Wayne, and he was dead.

The tourism business in Hong Kong has been through some very hard times. Ten years ago, with all the economic problems in Asia, far fewer tourists were visiting Hong Kong. However, the SAR (特別行政區(qū)) was still one of the most popular destinations in Asia, and a favored location for international meetings and exhibitions.
The year 1997 was the best year for tourism in the 1990s. However in 1998, the figure was down by 8% from 10.4 million tourist arrivals recorded in the previous year.
Tourism was still big business, though. The mainland was Hong Kong's largest source of visitors, making up over a quarter of all arrivals. Travelers from Taiwan Province, South and South-east Asia and Japan made up the most of other visitors. Tourism remained a major source of foreign exchange, although tourists spending dropped.
Tourists often made short visits, staying an average of three to four days. Most tourists came to Hong Kong for business or leisure (休閑) , or a mixture of both. Shopping was still the favorite thing of tourist activity and spending. The average visitor spent about HK $ 3,000—not including accommodation (住宿) and food.

Linda Evans was a well-known writer of children's stories, who lived m a fine old house in Devon. Usually she worked at home, in her quiet study, sometimes she had to leave the house to get some books from the library or have a meeting. She didn't like being away, because she was very worried about burglars. So she was very careful. Just before leaving, she always put a full cup of coffee on the kitchen table, and left the radio playing, to make a burglar think there was someone at home.
One day she came back after a day out, and saw at once that someone had been there. There was only a little coffee left in the cup, and the radio was off. But when she looked at her comput-er, she saw it was on and someone had typed in a new story. She had no idea who had got in, or how, because none of the doors or windows was broken. But she sat down to read the story, and it was a very good one. "I'll use it in my next book!" She said happily.
The next month she had to go to London. She put a lot of coffee and a plate of sandwiches on the table. ?When she returned, the coffee and sandwiches had gone. She ran to the computer. This time there was only a message on the screen. ??"IT’S NOT YOUR STORY, IT'S MINE!" it said.

Much more important表示更重要得多。
